Some of the stories behind our styles…

Some of the stories behind our styles…

At Fumaça we just love to travel and we do it as much as we can, we love it... That wonderful combination of travelling to new exciting places and trying all the amazing new foods, wines and cultural experiences is one of life’s true delights.

Many of our happiest times and memories have come from those trips around the world and it is through these travel experiences and visiting these amazing places that we have been inspired to create the design styles for the Fumaça collection.

Travelling and trying new foods is so enjoyable because it allows us to experience different cultures and cuisines, which can be both exciting and frankly delicious. Our own travel experiences here at Fumaça have had a profound influence on our lives, experiencing how other cultures enjoy outdoor living in their communities and homes.

Seeing how people in Europe particularly, put so much effort into turning their outdoor areas into useable living space, setting their main kitchens and dining rooms up outside their main houses through the warmer summer months and the enjoyment they have living the outdoor lifestyle in their homes, has inspired us on our life journey at Fumaça and inspired us to want to bring this wonderful way of living to our customers here in the UK.

So it has been on these trips that we have been inspired to create the styles we have developed for the Fumaça collection, if you get a chance, go and see for yourself, sure you'll love these  places as  much as we did...

Oslo the capital of Norway, is a unique blend of traditional Nordic style and modern scandi design. The city is home to a range of architectural styles, from the historic buildings in the city centre to the striking modern structures along the waterfront. The use of natural materials, such as wood and stone, is common in both traditional and modern buildings and we have endeavoured to capture the essence of this effortless scandi charm into the Oslo style. The city's atmosphere is one of relaxed sophistication, with a focus on outdoor activities and sustainable living. The city's stunning location on the Oslo fjord adds to its charm, with a sense of serenity and calm. A must visit city!

Matera in southern Italy is known for its enchanting, peaceful and serene atmosphere, with ancient cave dwellings, narrow stone streets, and stunning views. The town's rich history and unique architecture create a sense of timelessness, while the warm colours and natural materials used in construction evoke a feeling of warmth and intimacy.

At nightime when the traditional lanterns are lit and the restaurant and bars light thousands of candles, the magical atmosphere of the town comes alive, this is the spirit of the Fumaça Matero style; elegant, sensual and so mysterious. Pack a bag and head over there with a loved one for a sophisticated break worlds away from the hustle and bustle.

Bilbao, located in the Basque Country of northern Spain, has a lively and dynamic atmosphere. The city's industrial past has given way to a thriving cultural scene, with world-class museums, restaurants, and music venues. The streets are lined with stunning modern architecture, which creates a sense of energy and innovation. The style of Bilbao is characterized by modern architecture and innovative design, particularly in the iconic Guggenheim Museum. The use of modern materials steel, titanium, and other modern materials creates a sleek and industrial feel, while bold geometric shapes and angles add a sense of dynamism and energy to the city's skyline.

Comporta in Portugal is nestled on a tiny sand split on the northwestern coast of the Alentejo, about an hour south of Lisbon. It has a unique style that blends traditional Portuguese architecture with a laid-back beach aesthetic. Characterized by white-washed walls, thatched roofs, and natural materials, Comporta is all about simplicity and a connection to nature. It's a relaxed, bohemian style that evokes a sense of peace and tranquillity, a rare find and still somewhat of a hidden gem, think Ibiza 40 years ago. It does not get any more bare foot chic than this.

Including a strong sense of Natural design is important in our designs, being around natural elements and materials has a significant impact on our happiness and well-being and all helps to create spaces that promote happiness, health, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

Exploring the world and the design styles unique to certain countries and cultures has a significant impact on our lives, improving our creativity and inspiration.

By exposing ourselves to different cultures, we are exposed to new perspectives and styles that can influence our own design choices and creative process, igniting a sense of wonder and excitement, inspiring us to approach design in new and innovative ways, we try and embody this sense of global adventure in all we do at Fumaça.

These are some of the places that have inspired us through the years, we hope that you can share our love for travel and get out there, see more of the world and do a bit more outdoor living…

Happy travels, big love, team Fumaça X
